Auction Postponed as There Are No Takers for Srividya’s Chennai Residence

Auction by the income-tax authorities to sell off late actress Srividya’s Chennai residence to settle her dues was postponed yesterday as there were hardly any takers to attend and make bits at the auction.

Popular Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam actress Srividya, who had starred in more than 200 films, passed away in 2006 in Kerala apparently due to breast cancer which was detected at a late stage. As Srividya had Rs.45 lakhs against her name to be paid as income tax when she passed away, the authorities decided to auction her Abhiramapuram residence in Chennai to settle the pending amount.

Ironically enough, it has now been announced by the authorities that the auction had been postponed to some other date as there were no takers to purchase the late actress’ 1250 sq. feet Abhiramapuram residence in Chennai which is now managed by the actress’ brother and which has been given on rent.

The starting price has been fixed at Rs.1.17 crores; though many had come and seen the house, no bid has so far been made, resulting in postponement of the auction!
