Actress Jyothika, who has been praised for her amazing portrayal of a sensitive cop in her latest film Naachiyaar directed by Bala, has been signed up to play national award-winning actress Vidya Balan’s character in the Tamil remake of the hit Bollywood film Tumhari Sulu.
Directed by Suresh Triveni and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Atul Kasbekar, Tumhari Sulu released in theatres across the country on 17th November last year. National award-winning actress played the mother of a 11-year old boy and an ambitious middle-class housewife who becomes a radio jockey to host a late-night relationship advice show on radio.
Tumhari Sulu was critically acclaimed as well as commercially successful venture in theatres. Jyothika, who has portrayed a cop’s role with aplomb in Bala’s Naachiyaar and who gears up to shoot for her first-ever Mani Ratnam-directed film (Chekka Civantha Vaanam), has been roped in to play the heroine in the Tamil remake of Tumhari Sulu.
It may be recalled that Jyothika was away from the film industry for more than a decade after her marriage to actor Suriya and giving birth to two children. She has since made a comeback two years back and starred in films such as 36 Vayadhinile and Magalir Mattum. Now that she has Mani Ratnam’s film and the Tamil version of Tumhari Sulu on her hands, there’s no stopping the talented Jo!
