Bollywood’s London-born Upen Patel, last spotted in a brief role in Shankar’s Vikram-Amy Jackson starrer I three years back, is back in Kollywood with a major role as he has been cast as the antagonist in director Kanna’s upcoming film Boomerang.
Kannan, who has made breezy entertainers such as Kandein Kaadhalai, Vandhaan Vendraan, Settai and Ivan Thanthiran in the past, is turning producer with his upcoming directorial venture titled as Boomerang. Atharvaa and Megha Akash (heroine of Dhanush’s upcoming film Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta) play the lead pair in the film which has Suhasini, Sathish and RJ Balaji in significant roles.
Upen Patel, who has a chiseled physique, has a very important role in the film, Kannan informs. “Patel’s role is as significant as that of Atharvaa’s in the film. It’s a role which challenges the protagonist to the maximum possible extent. I approached Patel as I needed a ‘strong’ actor for this role; he loved the script I narrated to him and was immediately on board to commence the film’s shoot,” says Kannan.
Patel also reportedly told Kannan that though he had been getting many offers from Kollywood film-makers, he loved Kannan’s script which forced him to sign along dotted lines immediately. “I’m sure his get-up and looks in the film would be lauded by all; the climatic stunt sequence between Atharvaa and Upen Patel would be one of the most-loved fight sequences to have ever been filmed in Kollywood,” Kannan concludes.
