Superstar Rajinikanth, actor Dhanush and Pa. Ranjith, the director of Rajini’s upcoming film Kaala Karikaalan, have been served notices in a case relating to the dispute regarding the film’s title.
National award-winning actor and Rajini’s son-in-law Dhanush produces the film under his banner ‘Wunderbar Films’. Santhosh Narayanan, who scored the music of Rajini’s 2016 colossal hit film Kabali, is scoring the music of Kaala which has a huge star cast in Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Samuthirakani, Sukanya, Easwari Rao, Sayaji Shinde, Sampath Raj, Ravi Kale, Sakshi Agarwal and Pankaj Tripathi.
The film’s shoot was wrapped up some time back and the post-production work including dubbing have been going on at full-throttle. In the meantime, the High Court of Madras has issued notices to Rajini, Ranjith and Dhanush in a case challenging the title of the film.
Rajasekaran of Chennai filed a petition with the Court stating that he had registered the title of ‘Kaala’ with the Tamil Film Producers’ Council in 1996 and that the title as now being (mis)used without seeking his permission or intimating him. It was while taking up this petition that the Court has issued notices to Rajini, Ranjith and Dhanush asking them to respond within four weeks.
The Court also postponed the next hearing of the case to 12th February.
