National award-winning Bollywood actress and Palakkad’s pride Vidya Balan is likely to play former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in a film to be made based on her biopic by television producer-turned-author Sagarika Ghose.
Vidya Balan has acquired the film-making rights of the book from Ghose and would produce the film along with her producer husband Siddharth Roy Kapoor, it is said.
The 39-year old actress, known for her roles of substance and a string of power-packed performances in films such as Paa, Ishqiya, The Dirty Picture (which fetched her a national award for ‘best actress’), Kahaani, Bobby Jasoos and last year’s Begum Jaan and Tumhari Sulu, is all set to play Indira Gandhi in a film to be made based on the biopic penned by Ghose.
Indira Gandhi, the ‘iron lady’ of India and who is the first world leader to have created a separate country (Bangladesh) by military strength and determination, was assassinated at her New Delhi residence by her own security guards on 31st October, 1984. Ghose’s book titled Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister would soon be made into a feature film with Vidya Balan essaying the title role of Mrs. Gandhi.
