Mahendra Singh Dhoni is undoubtedly the superstar of Indian cricket, along with India’s cricket captain Virat Kohli, post the retirement a few years back of ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar. A Hindi film was made on the life of Dhoni last year and its dubbed versions in many languages and original version did rollicking business at the box-office, which is a sample of the proof of the popularity enjoyed by Dhoni.
Dhoni, who has starred in plenty of commercials, was invited by several film-makers to play the lead role(s) in their films but he had never taken up those offers. He continues to remain focused in his game, which is now limited to his commitments only in ODIs and T20s, as he has retired from Test cricket a few years back. He has now acquired the status of almost a ‘demi-god’ of Indian cricket.
Dhoni has, in the meantime, said ‘yes’ to an offer to star in a short-film to be directed by Kollywood film-maker Jeeva Shankar, who had directed Vijay Antony-starres Naan and Yeman in the past. It is neither an action film nor a romantic venture but a meaningful short-film, as affirmed by Shankar.
“It’s a film to be made in the sports backdrop. An app ‘Run Adam’ has been made with the objective of bringing out the sporting talent lying hidden in Indian youths. Dhoni has consented to play the lead role in the short film to popularize this app,” informs Jeeva.
