Balloon Director Takes a Dig at Atlee (Remake) Kumar

Sinish, the debutant director of actor Jai’s upcoming film Balloon, has taken a dig at director Atlee Kumar who continues with his style of remaking/rehashing successful films of yesteryears as his own films.

Atlee, who assisted Shankar during the making of superstar Rajinikanth’s Enthiran: The Robot, turned director with the 2013 super-hit film Raja Rani which starred Arya, Jai, Nayantara and Nazriya Nazim in the lead. Critics and movie-goers were unanimous in their allegation that Atlee had ‘lifted’ the base script of Mani Ratnam’s super-hit film Mouna Ragam but never gave credit for the same in Raja Rani’s title.

Atlee’s successive films such as Theri and Mersal also turned out to be unofficial and unstated remakes of Vijayakanth’s Chatriyan and superstar Rajinikanth’s Moondru Mugam. It was even rumoured that the Producers’ Council was trying its best to restrain Atlee from continuing with this practice in his future films.

Taking part at a meet-the-press event in connection with the impending release of the Jai-Anjali starrer Ballon, Sinish took potshots at Atlee when he conceded that the script of Balloon might have the impact of the many Hollywood films he had seen and enjoyed many times. “I’m being frank as I can’t make a film resembling Mouna Ragam and later say that I never watched the film,” he said, attacking Atlee almost directly.
