Actor-director-producer Cheran has asked Vishal, who is the president of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) to first put in his papers as the Council’s president before contesting the upcoming R.K. Nagar by-polls in Chennai.
“We, the producers, would be staging in-house protest till Vishal resigns as the Council’s president,” Cheran told newsmen yesterday. Producers, directors and many celebrities have opposed Vishal’s decision to contest the by-polls as they fear it might affect the functioning of the Council (of which he is the president) and the Nadigar Sangam (of which he is the general secretary).
“Both the bodies are apolitical in nature and Vishal’s unnecessary decision to contest the polls while holding posts in these bodies might send wrong signals,” Cheran said and added that the Council needed the support of the Govt. of the day for its many activities. “Vishal appears to be self-centered and doesn’t bother about producers and film-makers. Let him resign as Council’s president and contest the by-polls,” he said.
“Let Vishal contest from anywhere: R.K. Nagar, K.K. Nagar or Ashok Nagar as he likes,” Cheran ridiculed and added that producers would be sitting in in-house protest at the Council’s Anna Salai Office,” Cheran informed.
