Actress Raai Laxmi, who had been hoping to make her mark in the Hindi film industry as one of its frontline heroines, is quite upset that her debut film as heroine Julie 2 didn’t meet with a great response when it released in theatres last Friday.
The lanky Raai Laxmi, who had danced for an item number in A.R. Murugadoss’ Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Akira, debuted as heroine with Aftab Shivdasani’s Julie 2, sequel to the 2004 film Julie which had Neha Dhupia in the lead. The film hit the screens across the country on 24th November but didn’t meet with any great response from the audiences.
Speaking to newsmen recently, Raai Laxmi conceded that the crew might have ‘overdone’ the glamour quotient. The actress had been pinning hopes on a lucrative career in Bollywood as a heroine as she went out of the way in shedding her inhibition and clothing for many sequences in the film and even indulged in lip-locks. However, audience didn’t patronize the film in the manner the crew would have expected.
Critics say that the audiences have seen similar scripts in Jism and The Dirty Picture in the past. Expected to collect around Rs.40 crores during its first week in theatres to be considered a successful film, Julie 2 didn’t even collect 10% of the sum, thus shattering Raai Laxmi’s dreams of becoming a frontline Bollywood heroine!
