Raju Murugan, the maker of critically acclaimed films such as Cuckoo and Joker, is helping his aide-turned-debutant director in making his maiden directorial venture by not only penning the story and dialogues of the film but also in choosing the film’s hero who happens to be the cook at a wedding attending attended recently by Raju Murugan!
After debuting as director with the emotional Cuckoo in 2013, Murugan followed it up with last year’s Joker which fetched him his first-ever national award for ‘best feature film’ in Tamil. He has now agreed to pen the story and dialogues of his friend and debutant director Saravanan Rajendran’s maiden film which remains as yet untitled. Rajendran assisted Balu Mahendra, Kamal Haasan and Raju Murugan in the past.
“At times, we face unexpected events and developments. In our case, we had a good script and bagged a good producer for Rajendran’s debut directorial venture. We, however, didn’t get the right hero. At that time, I and Rajendran attended a wedding in Coimbatore. The food was good and when I enquired who cooked it, we were introduced to Ranga who I felt would fit the bill as the hero for Rajendran’s film.
“Ranga hesitated initially but later agreed to star in the film with commitment and dedication. Bollywood actress Shweta Tripathi would be making her debut as heroine in this film. Shaan Rolden would score the music while ‘Maanagaram’ Selvam would be the cinematographer. Details about other artistes would be announced later,” said Raju Murugan during the launch of the film held yesterday.
