In an unprecedented measure which is unbecoming of a frontline film-maker, director Suseenthiran announced on Thursday the decision to ‘withdraw’ his latest directorial venture Nenjil Thunivirundhal which had hit the screens only last week ago i.e. on 10th November.
The film’s release was preceded by a well-orchestrated pre-release promotion and many press-meets. Sandeep, Vikranth and Mehreen Pirzada-Kaur had essayed prominent roles in the film which has now been taken off theatres after just a week of its release last Friday.
The film received mixed reviews from the print and television media. Suseenthiran had himself revealed that he had to chop off many sequences featuring Mehreen to ‘trim down’ the film and even apologized to his debuting heroine for having done so. Even after trimming the film down, it didn’t start doing well in theatres and it is in this backdrop that Suseenthiran has revealed that it was being withdrawn from theatres.
“Due to some unavoidable reasons, we are withdrawing the film from theatres and have decided to re-release it after a few weeks. As of now, we plan to re-release it on 15th December. Thanks to all the criticisms – both negative and positive – about the film,” Suseenthiran said in a statement.
