MGR is the magic three-letter acronym which still determines the future of political parties in the state. Even after three decades after his demise in 1987, the former film superstar-turned-chief-minister MGR continues to evoke fond, affectionate and unforgettable memories in the minds of many of his fans, followers and even worshippers; such is the strength of the enigma which MGR was!
A film titled MGR is now attempted by Ramana Creations. The shoot of the film was launched yesterday in the presence of deputy chief-minister O. Panneerselvam. Tiruvallur M.P. Dr. Venugopal and State Culture Minister Ma Foi Pandiarajan attended the inaugural shooting schedule, which was ‘clapped’ off by chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami.
Many politicians and Kollywood celebrities took part in the function to mark the commencement of the film’s shoot. Sathiskumar plays MGR while director S.S. Stanley plays MGR’s mentor Annathurai. Others in the cast include Singampuli, ‘Black’ Pandi, A.R. Deenadayalan and Muthuraman even as hunt is on for suitable actresses to play the roles of MGR’s wife V.N. Janaki and ex-CM J. Jayalalithaa.
Sembur Jayaraj, who penned the screenplay-dialogues for Kamaraj, does the same for MGR too; Edwin Sagayam is the cinematographer of the film which is produced and directed by A. Balakrishnan. The producer is planning to release the film in April next year after giving wide publicity. The teaser of the film is to be released on 17th January next year on the eve of the late and legendary MGR’s 101st birthday.
