Suseenthiran, whose 2011 film Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai won the national award for ‘Best Popular film providing wholesome entertainment’, has said that he didn’t have a great idea of making sequels to super-hit films.
Having said that, Suseenthiran also conceded that he was indeed the script-writer of the sequel Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu 2 (sequel to his 2009 debut directorial venture Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu) which is directed by debutant director Selva Sekaran, an erstwhile aide of Suseenthiran. While the prequel starred Vishnu Vishal and Saranya Mohan, the sequel stars Vikranth and debutant Arthana Binu in the lead.
Suseenthiran’s 10th directorial venture Nenjil Thunivirundhal was to release during Deepavali yesterday but missed its tryst with theatres at the very last moment. To a query as to why he wasn’t directing the likes of Ajith, Vijay and Suriya, Suseenthiran said that he had once narrated a story to Suriya but he didn’t like the script. “I met Vijay and narrated a script to him but he hasn’t yet given any feedback,” he said.
“I’m waiting for an appointment with Ajith to narrate a script to him. This is the reason why I haven’t made films starring these three,” explains the bearded Suseenthiran. “I’m a huge fan of Rajini Sir and watched his Dhalapathi which released on a Deepavali after fighting and struggling to get the tickets,” he says.
On another note, he said that he didn’t believe in making sequels to successful films.
