Would spurn national award if Centre acts against us: Vijay Sethupathi

Actor-producer Vijay Sethupathi has said that he would even spurn a national award (if he is offered one) to register his protest to the manner in which the Centre has been acting against the interests of the State and its people.

Vijay Sethupathi was taking part in a meet-the-press event held in Chennai yesterday ahead of the release of his Karuppan opposite Tanya. Produced by Panneerselvam (of Renigunta fame) and produced by A.M. Ratnam, the film has received good pre-release talk. Vijay Sethupathi has essayed a bull-fighter’s role in the film which has Pasupathi and Singampuli in significant roles.

“The film’s script is close to my heart; the moment I heard it, I felt it would be a huge success at the box-office. The script narrates the love affair between a bull-fighter and his lovable wife. Audiences who flock to halls to watch the film would get a feeling akin to the one we experiences while visiting carnivals at Temples,” Vijay Sethupathi explains.

When a scribe asked him whether he would accept the national award for ‘best actor’, Vijay Sethupathi said he might have to say ‘no’ to accepting such an offer (if it came his way) in the backdrop of the Centre’s partisan attitude in NEET and other issues. “I’m more concerned about people’s feelings than awards,” he asserted.
