‘Sex-for-film offer’ culture still exists, asserts Mollywood’s Hima Shankar

Mollywood actress Hima Shankar has said that she wanted to reiterate the fact that ‘sex for film-offer’ culture still existed in Mollywood though she was well aware of the fact that her recent utterance had the danger of ending her career prematurely.

“I don’t care about the possibility that I may not get films in future and this may spell doom for my film career. I want to categorically assert that the practice of film-makers expecting sex from actress in return for offers to star in their films still exists in Mollywood,” said Hima, who exposed liberally for last year’s short film Yaksham.

Bollywood actresses like Preity Zinta have openly spoken about the culture of producers and film-makers expecting sex from actress in return of film offers. Joining the issue, Hima said “I spoke about the sex-for-films culture some time back and I’m aware that I was being criticized in a harsh manner. This might even prove detrimental to my film career but I’m not going to hold back anymore.

“Acting is a profession but I want to tell my fans and audiences that it is not done with the actresses’ bodies as the investment. It is wrong to agree to sex to get film offers. It is high time women stood up courageously, fought against this culture and for their rights,” Hima said, a few weeks after she revealed that as many as 3 Mollywood film-makers told her that she would get film offers only if she had sex with them.
