Director-actor Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, in a series of tweets, took potshots at theater owners and exhibitors for not passing on the entertainment tax exemption benefits to the general audiences all these days.
“Hue & cry makes sense only if Cinema is treated as an art form also & not just business & accept the fact that it has influence on society. Few biggies make big money, making irresponsible cinema, pay huge salaries 2 stars, wash out small producers & ask 4 exemption in name of?” she tweeted.
“If Cinema is treated as pure Business, where is the question of arguing against taxes? Make big money, pay huge salaries & ask for waivers? Join 100cr club & do publicity saying collections in crores! Hyped up salaries 4 stars & crying for help? For saving Cinema? And exemption should be only 4 deserving films, past years we saw irresponsible, commercial packages getting exemption,” she added.
