Kamal has ‘no comments’ to offer on Rajini’s war-cry to his fans

Kamal Haasan said he had ‘no comments’ to offer when respondin to a query from a scribe to react to superstar Rajinikanth’s war-cry to his fans by appealing to them to be ‘ready’ to face the ‘war’ in future.

Rajni, who debuted long after Kamal made his debut (as hero) in Tamil films, initially starred alongside Kamal in small roles, played his villain in some films before going alone to play the hero and, as they say, the rest was history: Rajini remains the undisputed box-office ‘emperor’ of Tamil films for the past four decades while Kamal’s films just about manage to meet their production cost.

Rajini-Kamal’s story is reminiscent of the Amitabh Bachchan-Rajesh Khanna episode in Bollywood. Rajini has always addressed Kamal as his ‘elder brother’ (not in terms of age but in seniority) and has always referred to him in his films in a positive manner but Kamal has consciously avoided referring to Rajini’s famed style, costumes or punch-dialogues in his films.

Speaking to newsmen on the eve of the launch of reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ by Vijay TV which he hosts, Kamal said that politics is not the place to earn money. Desisting from appreciating Rajini for saying that the ‘system needed to be cleansed’, Kamal said that Rajini had only reflected the views shared by many and hadn’t said anything new or wrong.

“If I know how to be in politics, I would have done so,” he said while replying to another query. “I have spoken many times about MGR and Jayalalithaa’s rule,” he added. When a scribe asked him to respond to Rajini’s appeal to his fans to remain ‘battle-ready’ to face the ‘war’ (polls) in future, Kamal curtly said that he had ‘no comments’ to offer, apparently not amused by Rajini’s decision to enter politics!
