Fans of ‘Vaigai Puyal’ Vadivelu, who had long been waiting for their favourite comedian to be back in films to do what he knows best (playing the comedian’s role and not that of a hero’s), were in for a happy surprise on Tamil New Year Day yesterday as Vadivelu’s comic sequences in Shivalinga have come in for huge praise.
Starring Raghava Lawrence and Ritika Singh in the lead and supported by a huge cast and directed by veteran P. Vasu, Vadivelu’s comic sequences are said to be the highlight of the film. Vadivelu, who hasn’t been spotted in films for the past 5-6 years, made a comeback with Kaththi Sandai early this year but his role was a truncated one as he appeared in the film only in the post-intermission phase.
For the first time in Lawrence’s career spanning more than one-and-a-half decade, Shivalinga was released in maximum number of halls across Tamil Nadu and elsewhere – a whopping 1400, as claimed by the distributor. Vadivelu’s fans, who flocked to theatres yesterday hoping for a grand return, were not disappointed.
Fans clapped non-stop during Vadivelu’s sequences who appears to have commenced his second innings successfully in Kollywood. Fans only want Vadivelu not to deviate from his decision to play only the comedian and not take up lead roles, as he did while starring in films such as Tenaliraman and Eli!
