I’m not a PETA member, clarifies Soundarya Rajinikanth

Soundarya Rajinikanth, superstar Rajinikanth’s youngest dauther, has clarified to one and all that she wasn’t a member of People for Ethnic Treatment of Animals (PETA), an animal rights organization whose India chapter has been strongly opposing Jallikkattu.

The State has been witnessing unprecedented protests in major cities and towns at Alanganalloor in Madurai to Marina Beach in Chennai as lakhs of people, comprising mostly students and youths, have been joining the protests involuntarily in an emotional manner demanding that the ban on Jallikkattu is revoked at once.

Protesters have also been demanding that PETA, whose (pending) case with the Supreme Court has resulted in the ban on Jallikkattu, be banned in India. Trisha, who had once appeared in advertisements endorsing PETA, was taken to task on social networking sites by her fans and Jallikkattu activists after which she had to temporarily ‘quit’ her Twitter account.

Amid rumours that she was also a member of PETA, Soundarya has clarified on her Twitter account that it wasn’t true. “I want to clarify to all those who are under the impression that I’m a PETA member that I had never been associated with PETA’s projects or plans. I support Jallikkattu whole-heartedly,” she said.
