Prakamiyam to be the first psycho-thriller of the New Year

Prakamiyam, debutant film-maker Pratap’s first film as a director in Kollywood, has shaped up as the year’s first psycho-thriller.

Besides penning the story, screenplay and dialogues and helming the film, Pratap is also playing the lead role in the film (emulating K. Bhagyaraj) opposite two debutant heroines in Parvathy and Subha.

The film, however, doesn’t have any song as the director has attempted to narrate the story in a realistic manner. Rahman, Vellore Vasudevan, Mano and Durai are the other artistes in the film.

Though the film has some sequences detailing the sentimental bonding between a mother and his son, it approaches the bonding in a psychological manner and is, as such, sans typical filmy-sequences where such sequences are usually over-played by the artistes concerned. The script dwells deep into a person who has been psychologically affected.

In Pratap’s own word’s, Prakamiyam is an art-cum-commercial venture whose script has no double-meaning dialogues or glamour-filled sequences. The Regional Censor Board, however, has awarded an ‘A’ certificate to the film as the film’s script can possibly have psychological impacts of deep levels on the minds of movie-goers.

Pratap has essayed dual roles in the film which is to hit the screens this Friday (20th January). P. Muthupandian is the cinematographer while Karthik Manorama has edited the film. Raj is the music director while Sumitra is the producer.
