Glamour shouldn’t symbolize an(y) actress: Shruti Haasan

Daughter of ‘Chevalier’ Kamal Haasan, the multi-faceted Shruti (who acts, dances well, sings songs in films, composes music and pens lyrics) never looked up to her illustrious father to prop up her career. Though her first film in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi film industries didn’t do as well as she would have preferred, she took it up as a huge challenge and has managed to establish herself as a frontline actress.

“I always take my own decisions; this has been my style right from my school-going days. I would never tell my parents about homework or incidents occurring in school. I used to my homework and prepare for competitions on my own. I developed a liking for films when I was still in School. I wanted to either act in films or become a music director.

“My trait of operating independently helped me a lot in deciding to pursue a career as an actress though I haven’t forgotten composing, playback singing, lyric writing, etc. I was once billed as a ‘luckless’ actress but I chose to overlook it and work hard to reach my position today,” Shruti said.

On the question of glamour, Shruti opined that being glamourous and donning glamour-filled costumes is an essential part of being an actress. “However, glamour alone can’t take you places at all times; one should try to be known for his or her work and not for looking glamourous,” she concludes.
