I said nothing wrong about Lankan Tamils, Cheran clarifies

I-said-nothing-wrong-about-Lankan-Tamils-Cheran-clarifies-1Reacting to the controversy surrounding his speech made at yesterday’s audio-launch of an upcoming film titled as Kanna Binna, actor-director Cheran has said that he didn’t need to tender apology or express regret as he hadn’t said anything wrong.

Cheran’s comments on action (not) taken against video piracy, made at the audio-launch, immediately sparked widespread reaction among industry folks. Cheran reportedly told on stage that “Lankan Tamils are behind the video piracy menace; I feel disgusting that we (the industry folks) had held many protests in Tamil Nadu in support of Lankan Tamils!”

“I don’t regret what I said as it was nothing but plain truth. I don’t feel that I should either explain it or express regret about it. Tamil organizations around the world are aware of my feeling for the struggling Tamils in Lanka.

Only those here make a big issue out of my remarks. I’m very close to more than 400 Tamil families in U.K. who haven’t reacted to my remarks. The piracy menace has been hurting us for 20 years.

“It’s a huge challenge to the producer and everybody knows (ironically) as to who prepares and supplies these pirated DVDs. I launched my C2H only to arrest this trend and when I wanted to open branches of C2H abroad, a few Tamils (Lankan) prevented me. I only blame those persons; those who are aware of the truth in my statement would support me,” Cheran concluded.
