Small budget films make huge stars for the future: K.S. Ravikumar

Small-budget-films-make-huge-stars-for-the-future-K.S.-Ravikumar“All the big stars of today had at one time or the other in their careers starred in several small and medium-budget films; such films have actually catapulted them to their present stature,” producer-director-actor K.S. Ravikumar has said.

Ravikumar was the chief guest at the audio-launch of an upcoming film titled Sandi Kudhirai which has television actor Rajkamal debuting as hero in Tamil films. Manasa plays the heroine in the film which has music by debutant music director Varashree, who has composed music for more than 6,000 devotional songs including the hugely popular Nama Shivaya Om Nama Shivaya song sung by the legendary SPB.

Anbumathi, who has authored more than 350 short stories in popular journals and who has also worked as producer-script-writer-director in many tele-serials, makes his debut as director with the film; he has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues too.

Speaking at the audio-launch, K.S. Ravikumar said “There is no such demarcation as ‘small film’ or ‘big film’; who decides it? Kamal Haasan-Rajinikanth’s Avargal and late K. Balachander’s Moondru Mudichu were made in just Rs.10 lakhs each.

“My debut film Puriyadha Pudhir and Cheran Pandian later were made at Rs.30 lakhs each. Only when films court huge success at the box-office we get huge stars; in fact, we ‘witness’ the birth of huge stars and directors through such films. Small and medium budget film-makers shouldn’t lose courage and try to make the films as interesting as possible to reach the top in the industry,” Ravikumar concluded.
