Aravind Swamy, Nayantara bag honours at Chennai Film Festival

Nayantara-and-Aravinda-Swamy-624x302Aravind Swamy and Nayantara bagged the top honours at the just-concluded Chennai International Film Festival. The 13th edition of the annual film festival was held for 8 days from 06-13 in Chennai during when 184 films from across the globe were screened. Tamil films Radio Petti and Kirumi were chosen for special awards at the Festival.

Jyothika’s 36 Vayadhinile, Mysskin’s Pisaasu, ‘Jayam’ Ravi’s Thani Oruvan, Vijay Sethupathi’s Orange Mittai, Nayantara’s Maya, Vikranth’s Thakka Thakka, Bobby Simha’s Chennai Ungalai Anbudan Varaverkiradhu, Kathir’s Kirumi, Kodai Mazhai, Radio Petti and Otta Thoodhuvan were among the films chosen for screening at the Festival by the organizers.

Anucharan’s Kirumi and Hari Viswanath’s Radio Petti bagged the first and second prize at the Festival’s concluding ceremony which was held on Wednesday. Lakshmanan, who played a major role in Radio Petti, bagged the Jury’s award for ‘best actor.

Nayantara and Aravind Swamy bagged the K. Balachander memorial ‘best actress’ and ‘best actor’ awards for their performances in Maya and Thani Oruvan respectively. Further, Nayantara was also awardd the ‘youth icon’ award instituted in the name of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
