Thanks to a sincere script and an almost flawless narration, national award-winning director Pandiraj’s latest directorial venture Pasanga 2 has emerged victorious, beating Dhanush’s Thanga Magan, ‘Jayam’ Ravi’s Bhooloham, debutant Gitanjali’s Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam and Hindi films Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale at the Chennai box-office in its first two weeks.
Produced jointly by Suriya’s 2-D Entertainment and Pandiraj’s Pasanga Productions, Pasanga 2 had Suriya and Amala Paul essaying ‘extended’ guest appearances. The film, which was the last film to hit the screens last year, collected 90 lakhs in its second week after faring normally at the first week collecting Rs.60 lakhs. Thus, the film has collected Rs.1.5 crores in its first 12 days in theatres in Chennai alone.
Word-of-mouth has clearly worked in favour of the film which is a children’s film and much-needed statement against parents pressurizing their wards in getting good grades. Bhooloham, which was on top in the first week, has come down to the second position followed by Dhanush’s Thanga Magan and Gitanjali’s Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam.
Even Shah Rukh’s Dilwale and Priyanka-Deepika’s Bajirao Mastani haven’t done as well as Pasanga 2 has fared. Kudos to Suriya and Pandiraj and the entire rew of Pasanga 2!
