Comedian Vivek has said on his Twitter account that the grim flood situation which prevails in Chennai, its suburbs and other coastal Districts in the State needed helping hands and not praying lips.
Vivek is the latest Kollywood celebrity who has indulged himself whole-heartedly in the relief work for Chennai’s flood victims.
Vivek, who has always viewed the society from outside his domain as an actor, had already planted lakhs of saplings all over the State on the advice of the late people’s president Dr. Abdul Kalam. Despite losing his beloved 13-year old son in October, Vivek was back to work burying his grievance.
“I was in Hyderabad when the floods started inundating parts of Chennai; my heart bled when I saw pictures of people wading through neck-deep waters,” Vivek had tweeted a few days back. Back in Chennai on Saturday, Vivek got down to work immediately with actors Karthi, Khushboo and Vishal. “More than praying lips, helping hands are what we need at this time,” Vivek notes.
Vivek was at Jafferkhanpet for two days distributing food, drinking water and other relief materials. “I can’t sleep peacefully after watching the people suffer,” he says and doesn’t want photographs of him distributing relief materials taken.
He has also been coordinating relief work from his Virugambakkam office. “When many mothers are so happy to accept the food, my heart sinks at their need,” Vivek has said.
