Ajith Kumar, who has been referred to as the ‘King of Opening’ in film circles due to the huge crowds he manages to draw in theatres in the first week of the release of his new films, has once again proved that he is the most-qualified actor to have the title.
Sources say that the pre-release advance bookings of his Vedalam, which releases today all over the world on Deepavali, have already netted a cool Rs.20 crores!
Starring Ajith Kumar, Shruti Haasan, Lakshmi Menon and others and directed by Siva of Siruthai and Veeram fame, Vedalam is releasing in more than 520 halls in Chennai and other parts of the State and in more than 450 halls in other States and in other countries as well.
Critics were of the view that Ajith’s latest film Yennai Arindhaal did well only in ‘A’ centres and couldn’t be categorized as an all-Centre hit film.
Siva, however, is a director who targets audiences from all the centres and as such, distributors and theatre-owners are hopeful of Vedalam doing well across all the centres. The pre-release advance bookings across the State to watch the film went on unabated despite the heavy monsoon rains, it has been reported.
Advance bookings in Chennai and other cities including Bangalore have so far netted a cool Rs.20 crores, re-establishing the kind of opening Ajith’s films command.
