It is strongly rumoured in Kollywood circles that a casual phone call made by superstar Rajinikanth to director-producer Shankar has ‘broken’ the chance of Shankar making his second film with Vijay in the lead after the 2012 film Nanban.
Vijay reportedly wanted to star in a ‘direct’ film by Shankar as Nanban, despite its success, was the Tamil remake of the super-hit Bollywood venture 3 Idiots which had Aamir Khan, Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in lead roles.
Shankar, who released his long-delayed I in theatres early this year, was reportedly preparing a script for a Vijay-starrer in which he wanted to cast Vikram in the antagonist’s character.
Rajini, whose latest film Lingaa was no-doubt a profit-earning venture but wasn’t a super-duper hit, wanted to make his third film with Shankar after the successful Sivaji: The Boss and Enthiran: The Robot.
After Rajini’s phone-call to Shankar during when the duo discussed the script and other things about their third film together, Shankar is said to have altered the script he prepared for Vijay to suit Rajini’s larger-than-life image.
After Kamal Haasan reportedly spurned Shankar’s offer to play Rajini’s villain the proposed film, Shankar has decided to settle for Vikram who would be locking horns with the superstar.
