It’s my freedom of expression: Simbu on Yennai Arindhaal tweet

Simbu-teams-up-with-AjithSimbu has defended his ‘mentally ill’ comments he recorded on his Twitter account on the day of release of Ajith’s latest film Yennai Arindhaal last Thursady (05th February).

Soon after watching the film, Simbu lauded the film and recorded on his Twitter account saying “Except those who are mentally ill, the film would appeal to all kinds of audiences!”

Simbu’s comments triggered a wave of protest across netizens in general and Vijay’s fans in particular. People started taking Simbu to task on social networking sites such as ‘Wassup’, Twitter and Facebook.

They simply had a solitary question for Simbu to answer: if somebody didn’t like the film, how can they be termed as ‘mentally ill?’ Fans of other actors have also been pulling up Simbu for his comments.

Clash has erupted between Ajith’s fans and fans of other actors on the Net as the former were hard-pressed to defend Simbu’s remark. Finding that the controversy was getting bigger by the day, Simbu explained his stance on Twitter. As trouble continued on the Net unabated, Simbu has come up with another version of explaining things.

“I didn’t refer to anyone in particular; nowadays, good films have become far and few. Three are lots of hiccups for the producers: a film has to be given ‘U’ certification, it should be full of fun and other entertaining aspects and above all, it should do well at the box-office.

Of late, though, the audiences seem to have developed a liking for watching horror films too. Producers invest a lot but chances of getting profit are dim.

“Shankar’s I was made in a very grand manner; had it got negative press, it wouldn’t have been able to make its mark at the box-office. Even Lingusamy was ridiculed when his last directorial venture Anjaan starring Suriya in the lead didn’t fare as well in theatres as expected by the makers. I didn’t say anything at that time.

I only expressed my views on Yennai Arindhaal and don’t know why it is being made into a big issue,” Simbu said.
