Producers and distributors of superstar Rajinikanth’s Lingaa have said that they would be revealing the details of box-office collections of the film soon and before Pongal.
Directed by K.S. Ravikumar, Lingaa released in theatres worldwide on 12th December last month coinciding as it did with Rajini’s 64th birthday celebrations. Reports say that though the film has collected huge sums at all the places, certain distributors have been complaining of losses in the areas/zones where they distributed the film showing ‘fake’ accounts.
Theatres owners fixed exorbitant prices for tickets, albeit unofficially, on the first three days of the film. They also screened 6-8 shows of the film on the first few days. Industry watchers point out that by any account, all the theatres which screened Lingaa would have recovered the cost in the first week itself. This was the scenario in all the theatres in the State in which the film was released.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s loyal fans, who say that the distributors aren’t saying the truth by claiming that they incurred losses by taking up release of Lingaa, have reportedly shot videos of tickets being sold at high costs in many theatres and multiplexes in Chennai and elsewhere. They claim that the distributors are claiming losses mainly to ‘hide’ the profits they earned through the film.
Eros Entertainment, which took up the worldwide release and distribution of Lingaa, is clear on the issue. “Has anyone given the correct figure in terms of theatrical collections in the past? However, we would be doing so. As per the details and figures which we have accumulated, we would be revealing the near-perfect collection details of Lingaa at the box-office before Pongal,” it says.
