Court serves notices on Murugadoss, Vijay & Lyca for 2G dialogues

Vijay-AR-murugadoss-e1414557357489The Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras has served notices on director A.R. Murugadoss, producer Lyca Mobiles and hero Vijay of the recently released Kaththi for the dialogues in the film which refer to the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam, an issue which is still sub-judice and hasn’t yet been disposed off by the Court.

Among the plenty of ‘punch’ dialogues of Vijay in Kaththi was a dialogue which referred directly to the irregularities in 2G allocation, a scam which is a burning topic and whose trial is still going on in Courts. The dialogue ‘It’s a country which looted money in a scam borne out of air’ might have been appreciated by audiences and Vijay’s fans but those in the know were stumped as to how could it refer to a case which is still in Court.

A case was filed with the Madurai Bench of the High Court of Madras in which the petition sought to know how the director, producer and the hero of a film could give verdict in a case which is still in Court. The petition also said that the dialogues actually amounted to contempt of Court.

Taking up the petition, the Court observed that there was a ‘prima facie’ case of contempt of Court and ordered that notices be issued to Vijay (who uttered the dialogues), A.R. Murugadoss (who penned the dialogues) and the producer who made the film seeking their explanation in the matter.
