Trisha has appealed to President Pranab Mukherjee to intervene and instruct the concerned authorities to spare a white Tiger named Vijay in a Delhi Zoo for killing a youth who had strayed into the enclosure meant for tigers.
Earlier this tuesday, the white tiger named Vijay had mauled a young man who climbed over a fence at the New Delhi zoo and jumped down 18 feet into the animal’s enclosure . The tiger which was watching the boy for more than 10 minutes , took away the hapless man into a hideout as visitors pelted stone at it. The young man Ideafied as Maqsood was pronounced dead by the time help reached after 2 hours. Video link
Zoo officials, however, maintain that the tiger had never behaved in such a manner in the past. Ironically, people thronged the zoo in huge numbers in the past couple of days to watch Vijay.
Suggestions were made from certain quarters that it would be better for the Zoo authorities to kill the tiger as it had got scent of ‘human blood’ and may not remain silent in the days to come.
In the meantime, animal-lovers are petitioning President Pranab Mukherjee through on-line pleas to help in saving the tiger. Trisha, who launched a ‘save-the-stray-dog’ campaign in Chennai a few years back, is a known animal-lover and is prompt to write to Pranab to intervent and rescue the tiger. Priyamani, who recently joined PETA, has also joined the chorus in trying to save the tiger.
