Vadivelu-Singamuthu comedy combination is as popular as the Goundamani-Senthil combo though it might not match the deeds of the latter pair when it comes to sheer numbers. The duo has entertained Tamil audiences across the globe in many films whenever they had appeared as a team. Vadivelu has since fallen out with Singamuthu and faced a 3-year long ‘unofficial ban’ from Kollywood before his Tenaliraman released a few months back.
Taking on Vadivelu in his comeback attempt, Singamuthu has said that only a few comedians could score by starring alone. “Vadivelu, I and a few other comedians starred together and tasted immense success. If Vadivelu’s confident of his own talents, let him star along as the sole comedian in films in future and achieve success,” he has said, clearly throwing a challenge to the comedian on the comeback mode.
Vadivelu, who played the lead role of a comedian in Tenaliraman, is at the crossroads of his career as he is apparently unable to decide whether to take up comedian’s roles as in the past or to star in lead roles.
Singamuthu, who has starred in many films along with Santhanam and other comedians, has said “Vadivelu has not a single film on his hands now whereas 11 of my films are getting ready to release and I’m also part of 25 other films under various stages of production.
“I’m busy as a comedian. Vadivelu never achieved anything big on his own; most of his comedy sections were accomplished as a team as all of us were involved in visualizing those sequences. Vadivelu got the credit for others’ hard-work. If he has substance, let him star alone and become successful as a comedian,” Singamuthu said and added that he was also getting offers to play lead roles but wasn’t taking the bait as he was ‘aware’ of what he was.
