No major film-related event in the recent past would have witnessed as many goof-ups as the audio-launch of Shankar’s upcoming film I on Monday night. The event, which boasted of the presence of Hollywood great Arnold Schwarzenegger, ended up with the chief guest exiting without releasing the audio of the film, the very purpose for which he had landed up in Chennai from U.S.
The event would have been written off by the press as a drab affair but for the presence of one man: superstar Rajinikanth. Clad in a formal pair of trousers, shining pair of shoes and a spotless white shirt, Rajini literally saved the day for Shankar.
The build-up to the event was too much as the audiences were asked to be inside the venue by 05:30. Some songs were played out for more than an hour when Rajini arrived on the dot at 06:45 p.m., the time he had told the organizers for his arrival.
Rajini had to wait for close to 80 minutes before the event commenced formally with the arrival of Arnold Schwarzenegger at 07:45 p.m. Arnold, it turned out, had told the organizers that he won’t be on stage for more than 90 minutes. The hosts, Chinami and Bobby Simha, almost snatched the mike from Arnold’s hands when he started speaking soon after the show of ‘bodybuilders’ was over.
Arnold insisted that he would speak and spoke for a few minutes and exited from the venue. Finally, late in the night, Rajini released the audio which was accepted by Puneeth Rajkumar.
Even as Rajini got down from the stage after releasing the audio, Shankar insisted that Rajini stay for some more time and Rajini agreed to his request in view of the camaraderie which exists between them.
