Angusam, an upcoming film, has been directed by producer-director Mhanukkannan(Rajesh Kannan), who produced the film Peruman some time back. In his second film as a producer, Mhanukkannan also makes his directorial debut. Mhanukkannan was earlier working in Dubai and took to film-producing at the encouragement of a friend.
As Peruman wasn’t a successful venture, Mhanukkannan wanted to go back to Dubai to pursue his career but came across a news item in a regional daily about a man who had made use of the provisions of the Right to Information Act (RTI), 2005 to retrieve portion of the land in his village which had been encroached upon by landlords.
“I then wanted to make a film propagating the advantages of using the RTI Act to good effect. I decided to play the role of a District Collector in the film. When we released the audio of Angusam some time back, we made it appear like a function which informed the public about the important features of the RTI Act. If we can make people beware of RTI as a tool to get things done, we would consider it a huge success.
“It’s important for the film to do well commercially; however, I took pains to ensure that the film doesn’t look like a documentary. The film would have the usual romance, comedy and sentiment factors seen in films but the lead pair of Skanda and Jayanti Guha would be seen using RTI to good effect to fight corruption. Srikanth Deva has scored the music of the film which has 6 songs in it,” says Mhanukkannan and adds that the film might release in theatres in October.
