Selvamani apologizes to journalist after calling them as ‘dogs’

RK-SelvamaniR.K. Selvamani, popular producer and director, apologized to the print media in general and to journalist in particular for describing the latter as ‘dogs’ during his speech made at an audio-launch of a short film made by Mu Kalanjiam a few days back.

Selvamani’s controversial remarks were made during the screening of a short film titled ‘Tamil’ made by Kalanjiyam. The screening was held at RK Preview Theatre in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Selvamani said “I have toiled a lot for Tamils and Tamil welfare through films. In all other State, the film-bodies are named after the language which is dominant in those States.

“In Tamil Nadu, however, it’s very different; due to my untiring efforts, I changed one body into Tamil Film Directors’ Association. When I tried to change the names of other bodies, I was taken off from my post. Nobody bothered about this,” he said and added “As we see, there is hardly a journalist to take note of the proceedings; had it been a commercial film’s preview, many journalist ‘dogs’ would have come here.”

Many celebrities including Kalanjiyam who were seated on the dais when Selvamani spoke so did not object to his remarks. However, the journalist fraternity was up in arms against Selvamani’s remarks and sent a formal notice to him seeking his apology. Following this, Selvamani met the journalists at the office of the Directors’ Association and sought a formal apology from them.
