A film titled Freedom has been made based on the brutal Delhi gang-rape incident which took place in December last year and which shook the conscience of the entire nation. The 23-year old medico, who underwent a severe brutal physical attack as well, passed away a few days after the incident, triggering a wave of protests across the nation as people demanded stringent punishment/death sentence for rapists.
RMS Productions has produced the film in Hindi titled as Aaj Ki Freedom and is dubbing the film in Tamil titled as Freedom. Ray, a Tamil girl, has played the victim’s role in the film. The director has taken pains to shoot the films at the very places where the real gang-rape incident occurred in a moving bus in South Delhi.
Ray’s character in the film has been named Jyothi in memory of the victim Jyothi. The film is scheduled to release on 02nd October on the eve of ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. Talking about his film, director Dan Gautham says “Mahatma once said that we can consider ourselves a free society only when a young girl is able to walk safely on the road in the middle of the night with her body adorned in jewellery of all kinds.
“The situation has become worse since he said so; a woman is not able to walk on the road safely even in broad daylight. We have filmed a song penned by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan about the victim. Anirudh Pathak has scored the film’s music and I have penned the story, screenplay, dialogues besides cinematographing and directing the film,” concludes the director.
