Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin, the pretty younger daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, has said that her mother (Lata Rajinikanth) is always the ‘boss’ in the family. “It is she who always made all the major and minor decisions and invariably, her decisions would be right,” said Soundarya, who is quite happy at the number of hits/downloads the teaser of her debut directorial venture Kochadaiiyaan has received on the Net in the past 3 days.
For her looks, Soundarya got the offers to play heroines in films but had steadfastly refused all those offers. She has always maintained that she didn’t want to work in front of the camera (as an actress) but behind it (as a director). “It’s not only me, Appa (Rajini) too relies 200% on Amma’s suggestions and guidance,” Soundarya says.
“I started Sultan: The Warrior starring Appa a few years back but it got stalled due to unexpected reasons; Kochadaiiyaan is in no way related to Sultan. While filming the romantic sequences between Appa and Deepika Padukone for Kochadaiiyaan, I did feel somehow embarrassed though I’m a die-hard fan of my father,” she reveals.
Soundarya becomes the first daughter in Indian cinema who has directed a film with her father playing the lead role. “I and Aishwarya are very different individuals; our tastes are vastly different in almost all spheres. While Aishwarya trained in veena, I trained at Golf,” she says and revealed that prior to expressing his love for her, Ashwin (her husband) spoke to Rajini about his love for his daughter and got his consent.
“I work hard like my father; my father was a nobody when he came to Chennai and look at him now: he is on top. I’m close to both my parents and am always concerned about their health and well-being,” concluded Soundarya.
