Kamal’s Vishwaroopam 2 faces first hint of opposition from INL

Vishwaroopam-2In what can be termed as the ‘first hint’ of opposition to Kamal Haasan’s upcoming film Vishwaroopam-2, the Indian National League,a Muslim-based political party in India has expressed its apprehensions about the contents of the film based on the trailer and media reports. Kamal faced a Herculean task in getting his Vishwaroopam released in theatres early this year after it was banned by the State Government.

Like he did with Vishwaroopam, Kamal has played the lead role and directed the sequel too. The film is likely to release on Deepavali or in the month of November as its date of release hasn’t been finalized. In a statement issued to the press, Jawahar Ali, State president of INL has said: “We have been deeply disturbed by the content and the overall depiction of Muslims as terrorists in Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam-2 which is to release either on Deepavali or later.

“It’s not proper on the part of a great artiste like Kamal Haasan co continue to insult Muslims through his films in the name of freedom of expression. It would be better if films are made without insulting or degrading any particular community. Kamal should understand why films such as Dam 999 and Madras Café were not released in the State and were banned.

“We earnestly hope that Kamal would apply medicine in the hurt hearts of Muslims by depicting Muslims in good light in his upcoming Vishwaroopam-2 so as to ensure that social harmony is not disturbed,” the statement concluded.
