Sathyaraj speaks on Madras Cafe issue

Raja-Rani-Movie-Audio-Launch-Still-14Veteran actor Sathyaraj, spotted with a clean-shaven head these days, has appealed to all not to demean the ethnic struggle of Tamils in Sri Lanka even if they are not able to offer a helping hand for the struggle.

The actor was speaking at Sathyam Cinemas yesterday when he spoke at the audio-launch of the film Raja Rani which has been directed by debutant Atlee and set to music by G.V. Prakash Kumar. During his speech, Sathyaraj touched on the hugely controversial Bollywood film Madras Cafe which has John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri in lead roles.

Tamil groups and Tamil activists have opposed the film’s Tamil-dubbed version to be released in Tamil Nadu as they feel that the film has not only show Tamils in bad light but has also made fun of the ethnic struggle of the Tamils in Lanka. As such, the Court has stayed the release of the film in Tamil Nadu.

“I haven’t yet watched Madras Cafe but I heard that the film has ridiculed the Tamils’ right to self-determination. Those who saw the film told me that overall, the film appeared clearly against Tamils and their interests. I strongly condemn the film, if it really shows Tamils in bad light. My appeal to everyone in the country is this: even if you are not in a position to support the Tamils’ cause in Lanka, at least don’t make fun of ,or ridicule them. It’s not a good thing at all,” said Sathyaraj.
