Gounders seek ban on release of Prakash Raj’s Gouravam

Pongalur-ManikandanPongalur Manikandan, State president of Kongu Vellala Goundergal Peravai, has appealed to the State government to ban the release of Prakash Raj’s upcoming film Gouravam stating that the film’s script has the potential to instill communal disharmony among the public.

Prakash Raj’s Tamil-Telugu bilingual Gouravam is directed by his favourite director Radhamohan and stars Tollywood’s Allu Sirish as the hero. Dazzling Yami Gautham, a popular model (Fair & Lovely) and heroine of the Hindi hit Vicky Donor, debuts in Tamil through this film. Manikandan’s appeal states that the film’s script has ‘degraded’ all the communities except Dalits.

In his statement, Manikandan has said “We watched the trailer of the film Gouravam recently and were appalled by the sequences in the film wherein more than 60 members of a non-Dalit community are shown to be indulging in ‘honour killing’ and other heinous acts against mixed-caste marriage. These sequences are bound to create violence against non-Dalits in the society. We can’t accept them at any cost.

“We want all the communities to live in harmony in the State and achieve economic independence and empowerment. This film, however, has the makings of sowing seeds of distrust and disharmony among the communities. We, therefore, request the State Government to consider banning the film’s release which is slated to hit the screens on 12th April,” the statement concluded.
