Software to cinema

SoundararajaHe made his debut as one of the villains in ‘Sundarapandian’. He then went on to playing supporting and character roles in subsequent films, including Nalanum Nandhiniyum and Velmurugan Borewells and as hero Sivakarthikeyan friend in Velaiyunnu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran.

Now Soundararaja is graduating to playing the lead role. Needless to say, the man is jubilant. The film in question is Director Ravindar Chandrashekhar’s ‘I-NA’, under the banner of Libra Productions. Soundararaja stars as one of the heroes. The actor talks about his evolution, from playing villain to hero roles, in films.

“I had completed my degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and got myself a job abroad. Work took me to places like Singapore, London and Dubai. They were high—paying jobs. But there was always something missing. After working for 4-5 years, I returned to Chennai with all the money that I had made.
Cinema was something that I had always been dreaming of. I produced a few short films along with my friends. They won a number of awards. On one side, I was producing short films and, on the other, I was making the rounds of film production companies, looking for offers. It took me six years to get the offer to star as a villain in ‘Sundarapandian’. I was very happy. My performance was well appreciated, but that didn’t bring any new offers. I had to resume my trips to film production companies. My efforts resulted in roles in films such as ‘Nalanum Nandhiniyum’, ‘Velmurugan Borewells’ and ‘Velaiyunnu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran’.

“While I was working in ‘Nalanum Nandhiniyum’, I got acquainted with Libra Productions and Mr. Ravindar Chandrasekhar. Ravindar saw my hard work, acting skill and dedication and gave me the biggest surprise of my life. ‘Libra Productions is already involved in making five new films. We intend to launch a sixth one with you in the lead role,’ he said.

“My happiness knew no bounds. I thought back about all the struggles that I had to undergo to see this day. He had another surprise for me. He said that he himself was going to direct this film. Ravindar Chandrashekhar is one of those people who are really passionate about films. ‘I-NA’ is the name of the film. The story takes place in 7 countries and I play the role of an Indian police officer.

“In my heart, I uttered a silent prayer to all the actors who began their careers as villains and went on to rule the box office in lead roles. I’m happy that I have got a big break. I have also got a few offers to star in realistic films. I love and respect films and I hope it continues to nurture me.”

“I’m leaving for Madurai tomorrow to shoot for ‘VVV’ (‘Velaiyunnu Vandhutta Vellaikaaran’),” said Soundararaja, summing up his passionate journey in films.
