Won’t seek compensation from Mani Ratnam for Kadal :Lingusamy

LingusamyProducer-director-distributor Lingusamy has stated in categorical terms that he wouldn’t be approaching ace director Mani Ratnam seeking compensation for the no-show of his latest directorial venture Kadal whose release and distribution work was taken up by Lingusamy’s Tirupathi Brothers in Coimbatore, Madurai and Chennai distribution zones.

Lingusamy had reportedly dished out Rs.6 crores to acquire the film’s distribution and release rights. Lingu’s younger sibling Bose, who runs the production house, was one of the many distributors who had filed complaints with the Chennai police commissioner demanding action against Maniratnam for failing to pay them compensation for the debacle of Kadal.

Bose claimed that Kadal collected only Re.1 crore and said in his petition that as the company had suffered losses to the tune of Rs.5 crores, Mani Ratnam would have to compensate them for the same. Amid some tense moments, Lingusamy has now come out in the open in support of the beleaguered Mani Ratnam.

“It’s true that we distributed Kadal in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai zones. Before going into the details about whether or not the film was a failure, I know as a film-maker that the success or failure of a film depends on a host of factors and not the director alone can be blamed for it. Mani Ratnam Sir is a great creator and I consider him as my guide in more ways than one.

“His films were a great inspiration for me to become a director and then a producer. I would never go to him demanding compensation. Nobody from my office would approach him in this regard; I can assure this,” says Lingu.
