Shocking it might be to many, reports emanating from Kollywood state that comedian Sanathanam’s home production Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya (KLTA), which released during Pongal holidays, might end up collecting a whopping sum of Rs.25 crores. KLTA, which features Santhanam and Srinivasan in lead roles, is easily the leader in theatrical collections among the 5 ‘Pongal releases’.
The film was reportedly produced at not more than Rs.5 crores including the cost of the advertisement campaign. Now that the film has been declared a ‘super-hit venture’, produces and film-makers are queueing up outside the residences of Santhanam and ‘power star’ Srinivasan. Their combination is cited as one of the many reasons for the success of KLTA. Newcomer Sethu hadn’t done a bad job either.
The craze among producers and directors in signing up the duo of Santhanam and Srinivasan has also pushed the fee of the duo to a new high. It was in the press some time back that Ya Ya would be the next film featuring the duo which would also have ‘Mirchi’ Siva in a prominent role. I. Rajasekaran, who worked as assistant director under M. Rajesh in Siva Manasula Sakthi, Boss Engira Baskaran and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, debuts as director with Ya Ya.
Murugaraj, who once worked as actor Vishal’s manager, turns producer with Ya Ya. When Srinivasan was approached to star in the film along with Siva and Santhanam, Srinivasan coolly demanded Rs.50 lakhs as his fee to which the director has relented. Not long back Srinivasan was ready to give money to others to make film(s) starring him. Santhanam has gone a step further and demanded Rs.2 crore for a non-stop 35-day schedule. Last heard, Santhanam’s fee has also been agreed to by the producer.
Tailpiece: Even before the shoot is Ya Ya is to commence, a leading producer is said to be ‘ready’ to bag the film’s release and distributions for a whopping Rs.11 crores!
