Kaadhal Sandhya returns to Kollywood with Maayai

Sandhya’s debut film ‘Kaadhal’ was described by critics as a ‘milestone film’ in the history of Tamil films for the realistic way in which the film was made by Balaji Sakthivel. The film was not only a critics’ delight but also turned out to be a huge success at the box-office as well. The film’s success launched the talented Sandhya in Tamil films besides giving a new lease of life to its hero Bharath.

That was the case a few years back. Sandhya, despite her acting skills and the ability to dub in her own voice for her roles in films, didn’t find many offers come her way. She did a few films including Vallavan opposite Simbu, Dishyum opposite Jiiva and Thoondil opposite Shaam. However, she couldn’t keep her weight in check which discouraged film-makers from considering casting her in their films.

After some break, Sandhya is back in Tamil films and is playing the lead role in Maayai, which deals with the dangerous consequences of one-sided love affairs, which afflicts many adults in schools and colleges. Rajendran, who played a significant role in Bala’s Naan Kadavul, is said to have excelled as a ‘psychic villain’ in Maayai. The script is all about how Sandhya, who plays the heroine, wriggles herself out of his custody.

The film was being shot in a forest locality recently. Even as the shoot was progressing, a herd of elephants came towards the crew at a terrific pace. Ultimately, as it turned out, the elephants didn’t disturb them and went away. Also a lion was told to be roaming around ,Sandhya demanded that the crew vacated the place at once. On her insistence, the director then shifted the shooting schedule to a ‘peaceful’ area in the forest sans any trouble.
