Comic writer ‘Los Angeles’ Ram has issued a press statement in which he has asked playback singer and entrepreneur Chinmayi to withdraw the case she had filed with the police against him lest face legal action in the form of defamation case. “Her complaint is a totally false one; it’s better for her to withdraw the same. Otherwise, she might have to face the consequences of her action,” he has said.
The statement reads thus: “I feel pained beyond description as Chinmayi’s complaint includes my Twitter ID. This has caused untold agony and stress to me. I’m thankful to the many friends and well-wishers who have got in touch with me through Twitter, e-mail and telephone to assure me of their continued support. I’ve been popular in the field of films and theatre for more than 25 years.
“Recently, I’am also active on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook as well. Twitter is common to all and nobody can question the presence of the other. There are, however, ways to block or ‘unfollow’ persons whom we don’t like or approve of. I’ve never followed Chinmayi on any of these sites and am unaware as to whether she ‘follows’ me. It pains me to know that I’ve been misunderstood by her and her family.
“Some time back, Chinmayi was in the news for her popular blogs on Twitter and other sites. Many were ridiculing her referring to her as Chinnatha and she was also hurling many kinds of ‘expletives’ at those criticizing her. During one of those ‘transactions’, I got a letter from Padmahasini, Chinmayi’s mother, wherein she had criticized me harshly for no apparent reasons at all.
“Chinamayi and her mother have totally misunderstood me; I’m a comic writer and I do many things to make spoof of public personalities. I had replied to her mother that we shall have nothing to do with in future but yet, not understanding me properly, she had included my name in her complaint with the police. This has caused unrest in my family and among my friends.
“Unless she withdraws my name in her complaint, she might have to face defamation case for which I shall soon be initiating action,” Ram’s statement concludes.
Chinmayi had listed six twitter handlers – @senthilchn, @RajanLeaks, @asharavkay, @losongelesram, @vivajial and @thyirvadai, stating they had threatened to kill, rape and assault her,
