Dhanush is certainly my strength, says Selva Raghavan

The brothers are back. After Kadhal Kondein (2002) and Pudhupettai (2005), elder brother and director Selvaraghavan is directing younger brother and actor Dhanush in the upcoming film titled Mayakkam Enna whose audio was launched at a simple but effective function in the city recently.

Both Kadhal Kondein and Pudhupettai were significant films in Dhanush’s career at the time of the films’ release. Now Dhanush’s career is neither going strong nor is at its nadir. It’s simply that his last few films in Uthamaputhiran, Kutty, Aadukalam, Seedan, Maappillai and Venghai haven’t proved to be successful ventures at the box-office. The lean spell is similar to what Vijay went through for a few years before making a comeback early this year with Kaavalan.

Though Aadukalam by Vetrimaran fetched him the coveted national award for ‘best actor’, the film didn’t end up as a successful venture. Even as Dhanush is hoping his upcoming film Mayakkam Enna opposite newcomer Richa Gangopadhyaya would break the spell of no-show of his films, Selvaa says he’s quite at ease in directing his brother.

“The film deals with the problems faced by the next generation and would be a visual treat to the fans. I’m aligning with Dhanush not merely because he’s my younger brother. I decided that as an actor, he’d be able to do justice for the character I had created in my script. This is the same reason for casting him in my earlier films too. With Dhanush’s caliber and acting prowess, he sure would add strength to my film,” says Selvaa.
