‘Silk’ Smitha’s biopic won’t be obscene: Vidya

Palakkad-born Vidya Balan, a huge name to reckon with in the Hindi film industry, has just completed one of the most tough and challenging assignments of her career. The actress has just wrapped up the shooting of her latest Hindi film titled ‘The Dirty Picture’, which is a biopic on the life and times of ‘Silk’ Smitha, the quintessential ‘item’ girl of Kollywood in the eighties.

The film has been directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor. The film’s trailer was released recently along with a set of still photographs which showed Vidya in glamourous and revealing costumes. The actress has said that the film would neither be obscene nor make one feel embarrassed. The still photographs left many asking for more as Vidya oozed optimum glamour in them.

Vidya says: “The film would be sans any obscenity or embarrassing sequence. I play an actress in the film and it need not necessarily look like a soft-porn film. As I did lots of homework to play ‘Silk’ Smitha’s role, I learnt that Smithat was not only an ‘item’ girl but was a beautiful actress too. Seldom do glamour and beauty go hand-in-hand; I have done my best in bringing on-screen the life of the actress who had a tragic end. ‘Silk’ was never seen as a soft-porn actress; the same is the case with me too.

“I starred along side veteran Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Imran Hashmi in the film. I had already acted along side Naseer and didn’t have any problem. The problem was when I starred in a ‘kissing’ sequence with Imran Hashmi. I felt somewhat uncomfortable but the carried on with it,” concludes Vidya.

‘The Dirrty Pictures’ is all set to hit the screens nationwide on 2nd December!
