Vijay upset with fans for depicting him as god

At the recent audio-launch held amidst Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s fans, the audio of his upcoming film ‘Velayudham’ was released. At that time, a few excited fans had pasted posters on the walls of Madurai city depicting Vijay as ‘God’. This drew widespread criticism from the print media to which the actor has now issued his explanation.

“My fans got carried away and had depicted me as ‘God’ in some posters. On hearing about, I asked them to remove such posters which they immediately obliged and assured me that they won’t do so in future. Some vested interests, though, are trying to make it a big issue. I and my fans are united by our heart which ignores barriers of caste, creed or community. I’m a humanitarian who loves to respect humans for what they are.

“I distributed cattle, computers and sewing machines at the audio launch besides providing financial assistance to three students for the entire academic year. I’m presently offering financial support for the education of around 1,000 students. I have about 50 support staff with me and I’m unaware of the caste and religion of each of them as I don’t bother about these things. I value human beings and not their caste or religion. Even my fan base cuts across the barriers of caste and religion.

“All I know is that I’m a Tamilian who’s out to do his best to serve the community. I don’t believe in depicting man as ‘God’. I tender my unconditional apologies to the act of my fans in doing so. I also appeal them not to indulge in such endeavours in future,” says Vijay’s statement.
