Vaali pens Sanskrit song for Naan Kadavul

Vaali, the eminent lyricist of Kollywood, has a reputation for writing profound and beautiful lyrics. He has come up with one such song for Naan Kadavul that runs for 11 minutes; the song blends in with the visuals and one will never realize it is so long because it is so enjoyable.

Vaali first thought of writing it in simple Tamil but upon director Bala’s request, he wrote it in Sanskrit. Though many might not be able to understand it, they will still find it appealing and would be able to form a mental picture of what it represents – such is the tune and music composed by Ilayaraja. But when watched with the visuals, the effect would be profound and its meaning would be easily comprehensible.

Talking about the effect of music and the way it transcends language barrier, an interesting incident occured during the filming of Naan Kadavul – when Bala was filming a Tamil song on the banks of the Ganges, a sadhu standing nearby stood transfixed listening to the song. When the shooting was over, he walked straight to Bala and appreciated him profusely. He commented that though he did not know the language the song was sung in, he was still able to connect it and understand its meaning. He described its tune and music as “divine”.

Naan Kadavul which has been in the making for the past two years is almost done and will be ready for release soon. Zee has bought its rights and would be marketing it worldwide. Arya has dedicated himself completely for this film, which also stars Pooja.

Trivia: When you watch Kill Bill next time, please that when the credits roll, you can hear “Subrabharatam” played on a flute for a few seconds!
